Visit of PM Gordon Brown to Poland (29/04/2009)
Gordon Brown made his first visit to Poland as Prime Minister on 28 April 2009. After meetings with Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Lech Kaczynski, he made a private visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Full details of his visit can be found on the Number 10 website.
Mr Brown was accompanied on the visit by his wife, Sarah Brown, who met separately with Poland's First Lady, Maria Kaczynska. The pair visited the Artur Oppman State Primary School No 68 in Warsaw, where they met pupils, were given a tour of the school's didactic garden and learnt about their work on environmental protection.
In February 2009, the Artur Oppman School was awarded the title of 'Ecology Promoter' in a competition under the patronage of President Lech Kaczynski.
