Our Embassy in Warsaw aims at reducing our negative impact on the environment and improve environmental performance to meet the UK Government’s commitment on the sustainability of its estate. We are serious in our aim to meet high environmental standards. We are promoting environmentally friendly initiatives and try to raise the general level of green awareness among our colleagues in 5 distinct areas of activity: energy, waste, transport, water and procurement.
We are able to measure Embassy performance (carbon footprint) using customised online Carbon Calculator that enables us to understand better the impact that our operations have on the environment.
Our new Embassy building is environmentally friendly. Energy conservation is an important feature of the building; the glass elevations function as the outer skin of the double façade, to provide substantial thermal insulation in winter and to reduce heat in the summer. The heating and cooling system inside the building has a variable flow and adjusts according to fluctuating external temperatures. These combined solutions significantly reduce the building’s energy consumption.
We are currently rated 'excellent' by the BREEAM certification system which is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings (it includes such factors as energy performance, recycling procedures, health and well-being in the office, etc.).
