Central and Eastern Europe tours the English regions – “If it’s Thursday, it must be Sutton Coldfield” (29/06/2009)

Central and Eastern Europe tours the English regions – “If it’s Thursday, it must be Sutton Coldfield”.

For three hectic days between 3-5 June, heads of UKTI from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Vienna, Hungary and Poland visited three English regions to showcase opportunities in their markets to an audience of British companies.  Mike Moon, Peter Repka, Miles Fisher, Jamie Banks and Liz Basing presented to a total audience of around 150 companies in the North East, North West and West Midlands regions.  The companies were at every level of experience from novices to seasoned exporters.  They also ranged from satisfied customers of UKTI to some delegates who had come along to hear for the first time about the opportunities our markets had to offer and how UKTI could help business make the most of them.

Liz said: “It was a real whistle-stop tour - as well as presenting on Poland I had over 40 one-to-one meetings with companies and the priority when I got back last week was to follow up those contacts.  Now I can pause for breath, and to reflect how it felt to see the huge amount of interest in the Polish market in all the regions we visited.  Our messages, about opportunities across the board but particularly about the relative strength of the Polish economy, Poland’s European Funds and Euro 2012, are clearly getting through.  Together with what the British Polish Chamber of Commerce has to offer we have a package of support to be proud of, and my team is ready and waiting to help British firms succeed in business here”
