Trako Rail Exhibition – Locomotive for Business (23/10/2009)

A delegation of almost 40 UK rail companies visited Trako Rail Exhibition in Gdansk, to share expertise and do business with Polish rail companies.

A delegation of almost 40 UK rail companies visited Trako Rail Exhibition in Gdansk, to share expertise and do business with Polish rail companies.

The excellent way the trip was organised meant that in addition to just being able to introduce myself to prospective customers, I was able to have some fairly in depth discussions, with the opportunity to follow up with more detailed product offers. I estimate that the value of those initial offers could be in the region of £200k per annum should they be successful.” – Mr Keith Griffiths of Cobra Design Centre commented on his participation at Trako.

Prior to the Exhibition, UK companies had an opportunity to meet decision makers of some major Polish rail companies such as PKP Railway Stations, PKP Polish Railway Lines, Warsaw Metro and Koleje Mazowieckie. During the seminar, an in-depth introduction was also delivered by Mr Janusz Piechocinski, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Infrastructure Committee.

Richard Burchell, International Trade Adviser for UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), the Government organisation behind the visit said:

The UK's rail sector has long enjoyed a global reputation for spearheading innovation and delivering first class products and services, from brake components to innovative finance. The UK Midlands is renowned for its expertise in the rail sector. This visit brings companies from cities including Birmingham and Derby, which have a strong rail pedigree.

UKTI are pleased to be able to support this visit and companies involved are looking forward to meeting with Polish rail buyers, suppliers and distributors.”

The British delegation had expertise and capabilities in wide range of areas, particularly in: cable management, silicone extrusions/mouldings; position control technology, rail impact protection; steel forgings; curved steel structures; liquid storage tanks; 3D surveying; forensic property coding; passenger and driver seating; station platform display equipment track maintenance; trackside communications; shunting engines and maintenance tugs; rail asset/property analysis and maintenance services diagnostic systems.

As the World rail market enjoys mass expansion, railway organisations around the World are turning to UK companies with expertise in consulting, engineering and manufacturing. The interest in the British products and services was clearly visible at the UKTI stand at Trako, where a huge number of bilateral meetings took place. Many companies said they would be coming back to Poland to continue this dialogue in the near future.
