Human rights
The British Embassy in Warsaw actively promotes human rights. We have been invloved in many projects promoting ethnic diveristy, the rights of disabled people and fair trade.
In June 2008, our Embassy flew the rainbow flag alongside the Union Jack in support of Warsaw Pride and as a symbol of the British Government's commitment to equality and acceptance for all.
Diversity, understanding, openness, these were the leading themes of the British Embassy project „Poznajmy się” (Let’s get to know each other), which was launched in September 2007.
In 2006 our Embassy worked in partnership with the Polish Parliament and a disability NGO, Integracja to organise three conferences at the Polish Senate on legislation protecting the rights of disabled people. The conferences aimed to answer these questions:
-
- How can Poland develop an effective equality and support system for disabled people?
- What are the barriers to creating this system?
- What lessons can Poland learn from British experience in this field?
